HOW:

This program, organized by AIANY Custom Residential Architects Network, will explore the unique approach to energy conservation: Passive House, which has proven to reduce heat energy use by 90% and total energy use by 75% without the aid of any on-site energy production, such as solar or geothermal. Residential Architects can add Passive House consulting to their practice—potentially as an additional service for new construction, renovations, and restorations—to improve the energy performance of their commissions.

How does Passive House work? What are the specifications and techniques used to meet Passive House standards? What skills can an architect gain by taking in-depth courses in Passive House from PHIUS? What is required for a project to achieve PHIUS certification? How does PHIUS certification benefit the homeowners? What are the costs increases for pursuing PHIUS certification? What are the benefits to homeowners and homebuilders for pursuing Passive House specification and/or techniques even if PHIUS certification is not achieved?

These questions and others from the workshop audience will be addressed by the lead speaker and in the following breakout sessions, which will be lead by Passive House Alliance-Hudson Valley (PHA-HV) leaders.

Speaker:
John Loercher, Owner/Consultant, Northeast Projects
